The body of a whale

This photograph was taken last year on the Bay of Fundy. Its a humpback whale. It is a simple image but to me there is real sense of power. A very graceful animal but its immense size and solid body creates a sense of awe...for me anyway. The original photo was in colour but there was little of that so I converted it to black and white. Bay of Fundy

I have just returned from a 5 day trip to the Bay of Fundy assisting with the teaching of a marine mammal class. While out on the boat I took the opportunity to shoot what I could. During the middle of the trip the weather turned foggy so that the last two days were a wash-out. But I got a few nice shots. Here are some...


This is my favourite shot. It is a Greater Shearwater that was following the boat. So I tracked her with my camera. The light coloured foamy water adds to this shot.

I also really like this one too. A white-sided dolphin porpoising alongside the boat. The water was very calm with some nice reflections.

Whale Tails

Hi,

Last year in August I spent one day on the water in the Bay of Fundy with a group of marine mammal students. We were with Northern Right whales and naturally I took my camera to get some shots. Here are two that turned out OK. They were very difficult to shoot because one does not know when or where the whales would emerge, they were up for a very short time and the sun was very bright on the water but the whales were very dark. Tell me what you think. My favourite is the first because of the lovely curvature of the tail.
