Graffiti

These images were taken on a recent trip to Nottingham, and they remind me what interesting subject matter graffit art is. Even in the most depressing urban area, there's often several pieces of photographically interesting street art. I try to focus in tight, so that the shapes and colours are taken out of their immediate context, and the viewer is forced to concentrate on the shapes, colours and textures of the design, or part-design, in question. These two especially interested me, and I think they make good subject matter, however questionable the social and moral aspects of graffiti are.

Hi Ivan,

I wanted to add to my previous comment. The way the photos are taken is pretty neat because when you first look at them they look like a painting or coloured drawing. They don't look like they were photographed on a wall. Its only when you look closely that you see the wall. The light and composition have created this effect. The composition is well done; in the first the curves at the bottom of the graffiti and in the second the play with colours. One can see that a lot of thought has gone into each photograph but you don't appreciate that until you really study the photos.
