Swan
Taken on the river Cam, as dusk approached, on Grantchester Meadows, out the back of Newnham. Hand held, hight ISO, so a bit grainy, which I think is nice. I used a gaussian blur layer to smooth it out a bit, painting back some of the grain with a layer mask, to accentuate the ghostly feel. Cropped, colour desaturated a bit (except the beak) to finish.
It has flaws, but I like this one.

Seems rather dark to me. Given the white of the swan and I am expecting it to be more punchy but the white here is rather greyish...and the focus too soft...I woudl have preferred sharpness to blur I think...or perhaps it would look better blurred if it was brighter...don't know.

I agree with D - looks too soft to me.

Agree. It is soft, but there was virtually no light, and I was hand-held at the telephoto end of my lens at high (1600) ISO. Although image stabilised, it can only do so much. When I saw it, I thought I'd capitalise on the softness (different from out of focus) and make it more ghostly etc, going for an arty rather than technically perfect effect.
Looks like the pervading view is that it's not achieved that, so good feedback.
Cheers
