Nice work - I (modestly) think it works really well; much stronger.

See you soon

I actually prefer the original; there is much more a sense of space which for me is what matters in this photo; not the power lines. The power lines add a lead but I feel should not be the main focus.

Actually Damian, you're the second person to say that too me this week - perhaps i should go with the consensus?

There is a power line that comes in from the right that, for me, connects the empty space with the power lines, if you know what I mean. The wonderful light grey hues that are in the other field also greatly add to this photo.

And it reminds me of my home town of Louth; I have walked a field just like that with my dog and lovely girlfriend Sue.

I also love the lighter area of ground coming off to the left from the first pylon. Well, I could go on...

Guys

It's an interesting debate this one. Cropping is done to achieve a certain focus or interest. I cropped for the powerlines, as they were the interest for me; you prefer the openness and the reasons are equally valid. Also, D's comments on the shades and areas of light and dark are spot on.

Top thread discussion...isn't this what it's all about (D?).

CCC starts v soon - expect G and I to put our possible submissions on the blog for your expert critique. I may even use you guys to help me select the final two images for each competition. Whether I take your advice re selection is another matter, but all views help.

Cheers
Ivan

PS we only have a few posts to beat last years total - should be easy to do!
