A couple of Venetian images

Both of these were taken in 2004 using my old Nikon Coolpix. Crap camera - although it did do RAW - but somewhere as beautiful as this can be captured with a disposable camera and still look good.

They were both early morning, before the crowds. I like the one of the shadows under the arches, with the solo figure walking away. Also, I tried to get a new take on the tired theme of Venetian gondolas. Did I succeed?

#1: I like how you've composed this, being not on the centreline of the hall. The lone pedestrian is great too. Did you have to lighten the ceiling at all?

#2: Like the subject, but the orange sky distracts me. A little fiddling with the saturation? Or B&W?

I like both for sure. The first one has great light and colour and the texture of the stone comes across very strongly. I can almost smell it. The light must have done this I guess. It feels very calming to me. The person in the far background really adds to this pic. In fact, it would totally change it if it wasn't there.

The second image is very interesting. It comes across as a very old photo. The texture and colour in the pavement is great. The skyline and orange sky is distracting though and not sure how to deal with that.
