Blue bus

I was driving through town and passed the Citadel Hill and saw this brilliant blue bus driving along. The contrast with the green grass against the blue sky was too much. I had my camera in the car so I pulled over and shot.

D - I can see why you took this. Simple contrasting colours and shapes. Good one. I'd crop it to be more panoramic, to balance the sky (not v interesting) and grass, and give the bus more direction to move into. Just a thought. Good image.

This does raise an interesting point. The photo shown is the image I experienced; it is what I remember. If I were to crop it to enhance the movement of the bus then I am turning this photo into an image I did not truly experience. Me preference is for the former; to portray what I experience.

What you experience is not possible to be portrayed via a camera; a representation of that experience is all that is possible to portray, and I guess you want that portrayal to be as close to the real thing as possible?

Fair do's, but I think your photography - and possible commercial success - may suffer if you pursue this strategy to it's logical conclusion (shave head, wear leather sandals, orange robes, live in mountains, brew great beer).

Friendly plea: be careful - you are a great photographer, and you may - in my opinion - take some serious steps backwards if you try to make your photography into some kind of buddhist thing. I know we don't agree on this neccessarily, but I remember not more than a few years ago when I gave you your first Photoshop and cropping masterclass...you were well up for it then..!!

How many famous Miksang/Buddhist photographers do you know?

Well, there is a reason why Miksang/Buddhist 'photographers' are not famous but I won't get into that...

OK. The whole buddhist thing. I study it because I was beginning to express it before I knew about it so it has resonated with me. I think it is great to capture these experiences...

I am going to get back to this discussion because I need to go back to a few quotes I recently wrote and have a think or two...

mmm...

My initial thought though is that you should be able to express what you see and not what others want or think you should see..
