Upon the suggestion of Colin, I have removed the ATV tracks from the image.
This image will be a part of my limited edition catalogue and on sale at the November Nova Scotia Design and Crafts Council Xmas Craft Show (a very up market show).
what do you think? any difference?

Sorry Colin , I prefer the picture with them in D. just adds a small focal point to the foreground.
the first one is sharper, and there is a path on the right, which makes the image more interesting. I would say that you also corrected the levels on the first one, but maybe it is coming from my screen. I do prefer the first one then, the colour tones are also warmer, which fits well to the subject!
The two images are actually identical (well, should be anyway), the only difference being that one has the tracks through the dune and one does not.
Looks like the tracks are preferred and I think I agree. They provide a focus and a sense of presence.

I agree with Seb, the top one does look sharper, so maybe you did something without knowing to the second image?
Looking at it again, without the tracks it needs something in the foreground (like the tracks!).

I have to admit that getting rid of the tracks did not have the effect that I thought it might, and it does look a bit hollow there now. I still don't like those machines though!!
The second image definitely is less sharp, maybe that's just an artifact of scaling?
