Fen Sunset

My effort for the week (must post, must post). Taken this summer near Little Downham. Nothing special but kinda like it all the same. ISO100, 55mm, f16, 1/6 sec. Touched up in LR2.

I like it! Could stand to lose the plantlife in the foreground. They distract and they're out-of-focus.

I actually like the flowers in the foreground and think the shot would lose a lot if they were removed. I would have liked to have more light on the flowers but know that would be difficult unless one took two shots with different exposures. The river leads straight to the setting sun and through the photograph. The straight line of the river is a little simple/plain and takes the eye through the photograph very quickly rather than let it linger. There are some great colours in the water though. Nice contrast between the darkness of the field and bank and against the brightness of the river. Like the trees in the background and the colours in the sky. All very calming.

I like this simple image. Great light in the sky and on water, and a lovely gentle light on the river bank and adjacent fields. These types of Fen views are very typical and hard to get an image with real impact, but this does, in a gentle, lasting way.

I too think that the foreground flowers are a must, but they are slightly marred by being out of focus - there's a tension there, are they in the photo or not? Clearly they are in, but the lack of focus confuses that a bit. Would like to have seen in focus, but with this light and the narrow aperture that would have been needed, we are talking a 30 second exposure (or more) and the bloody things would likely have moved by then anyway.

Very good image and a nice take on a well-trodden type of image.
