Sunrise on Sable Island
This is my entry for the week. The photo was taken on Sable Island in late Dec 2005 at sunrise at the east end of the island. I find the warm colours in the sky very appealing and the 'glow' of the morning sun on the grass in the foreground is bloody lovely.
The light on the grass and dunes is very nice indeed, creating a beautiful warmth to the image. I don't mind the central horizon in this case, as both the land and sky are equal interest, and balanced still. The emptiness of the composition suits this - nothing fights for attention or detracts from the light and delicate grasses. Brilliant. Would love a copy of this large, for a screensaver or even to print out and frame.
Well, typical of Colin to see the ATV tracks! I usually have to do that on shots from Sable but this time I actually like them. It gives a sense of presence to an otherwise empty quiet image.
I didn't even notice these...now that I have, I too like them, for the same reason. I'd be interested in seeing a version with them removed, just to see if Colin's comments are borne out.
To pick up on something Gareth said on another post, will you (D) be taking pictures of you at your exhibition and then post them with a review/comments. Would be great to hear how it goes, and a great article for the blog.
Yes, I intend to take my camera to the opening night (Thurs) and shoot some pics. And then post a blog of my thoughts on putting on an exhibit. The whole process from first thought to opening night, ...perhaps.
As for Xmas, it looks like November if at all, and it might be a squeeze since I have three Xmas shows in November. Will let you know.
D: I think the tracks are a distraction, and don't add anything. (In fact, they remind me of all the idiots out this way who drive ATVs through farmers' fields and my forest! I hate those bloody things! Not that I'm biased or anything... :D )

Can you lose the ATV tracks?
