Seasonal Affective Disorder

OK so it's a bit cliché... bite me! Fall colours have arrived here in NS, and last week this leaf was the first to go. The bastard! Now all the others on that tree have decided they wanted "the look" as well. Before long they'll be dropping like Jonestown cultists. Oh well.

Three pictures to choose from this week. Which do you like/dislike and why? I think I like #3 the best, the off-to-the-side look should appeal to Damien.

Using a polarizer here really helped to bring out the colour.

Middle one is best for me, as the blurred background gives more impact to the leaf, which is situated in a similar position to the third image. Don't like the first one at all - too central for me. The polariser has worked well, giving good saturation. The middle image (and the others too) are very contrasty, but would have been worse without said polariser. Softer evening light would be good to see if the opportunity presents.

Nice work

PS Where's Bluey these days...?

I agree with Ivan, and prefer the centre image. Did you sharpen the image? The red leaf should be in crisp focus, especially since the background is blurred. But to me, it seems the focus is too soft. In the last image, the background is not blurred enough to stop the eye from trying to focus on it and the red leaf is uncomfortably close to the edge. Good use of the polariser though.

D: Yes I have to admit flubbing the focus a bit. The top half of the leaf is ok, as is the edge of the green one above it. I used that vivitar series 1 100mm f/2.8 lens you played with once when you were over. It's my favourite lens, but it can be hard to control sometimes.

Anyway, thanks for the comments!
